Youth Theatre

In January and February 2008, as part of her Masters in Arts in Social Contexts at the RSAMD, Heather worked with actress Amanda Beveridge on a 'Theatre For Youth' project at the Lyceum Youth Theatre (LyT), Edinburgh. This five-week project was aimed at twenty young people between the ages of 11 - 18, who were on the waiting list to join regular LyT activities. This 'Drama Drop-In' allowed them to take part in a project as part of this unique partnership.

Heather and Amanda explored themes with the group taken from the Lyceum's co-production with the National Theatre of Scotland and the Citizens' Theatre, of Six Characters in Search of an Author, by Luigi Pirandello, in a new version by David Harrower. Over the course of the project we explored character development, improvisation, devising and creative writing, and at the end of the five-weeks, there was a small Sharing in which the young people were able to show their final work to each other.

  • "I liked the short plays and working in groups the most. It forced me to push my imagination and think more and faster."

  • "I always looked forward to going each week."

  • "Can you please do this again!"
